MIS AMS Welcomes Newest Team Member

MIS AMS has started the New Year by welcoming their very newest recruit Karina Al-Hakim. We are very pleased to announce that Karina joined the team in the first week back after the Christmas break and is already finding her MIS feet.

Karina has taken up the position of New Business Consultant and her responsibilities will mainly be customer account management, but she is also supporting the wider MIS team on projects, demonstrations and tenders.

Karina joined the team from Stockport Council where she started her career with them as a Planning Enforcement Officer, before moving into a Quality Assurance Officer role. Both positions were customer facing where her main responsibilities were dealing with complaints, undertaking site visits, attending meetings and resolving issues.

We hope all customers old and new will welcome Karina with open arms.

Want to find out a little more about our newest recruit? Well, she answered some questions in way of getting to know her better:

  • What’s your name and where do you come from?

Karina Al-Hakim and I’m from Cheshire. Originally Wilmslow and soon to be Northwich.

  • What attracted you to this role at MIS AMS?

I was looking for a new challenge and a different environment. Having always worked in Government settings, I was keen to move away from the public sector to gain a different perspective and experience. I’m very customer and people focused so the role of ‘New Business Consultant’ was very attractive given it is largely centred around that interaction.

  • Describe your role in no more than 100 words.

I am responsible for all aspects of customer account management (remotely and in the office) meaning I will be meeting lots of new faces in the coming months and getting to know our loyal customer base very well. I will also be playing my part in attracting new customers, through attending events across our busy calendar, being involved in demonstrations and assisting in tender applications. In addition, I will be supporting other teams across the business in our numerous on-going projects and flourishing client work.

  • How are you finding your first month at MIS AMS?

Amazing! From the very first week everyone here has been so welcoming, supportive and helpful. Coming into my new office felt normal within days and this is due to the great personalities which flow right across MIS. I’m enjoying learning about my role, the business and our customers. I’m very much looking forward to my future with MIS-AMS.

  • What’s the most interesting thing you’ve done at work this week?

Assisted a fellow team member write up a case study on one of our very successful projects. It helped me to get to grips with what we do, how we do it and the ROI for our clients.

  • What are your strengths?

Oh, this is a hard one… But, I would say I’m customer focused and genuinely enjoy getting to know people and then helping them. I have strong communication skills.

I’m also organised in and outside of work. I would also describe myself as a positive, happy person that prides herself on doing a good job!

  • What are your weaknesses?

I have been told, I have a tendency to over communicate. Although this can be seen as a weakness by some, I like to think of this as a strength. Surely it’s good to talk!

  • What do you believe makes a great employee?

Lots! Being friendly, the ability to listen and learn, to understand and empathise, to do what you say you will, to ask for help when needed, to help others when they need it and to treat others as you’d like to be treated. Oh, and a good sense of humour!

  • What are you most looking forward to in your first year at MIS AMS?

Becoming an established and valued member of the team. Becoming familiar with the systems and making a positive contribution to both MIS AMS and their customers.

  • How do you alleviate any stress that comes from a working week?

I find good wine really helps! More seriously, during the working day; talking with colleagues about any problems or concerns as they arise. Gaining support or providing support, agreeing a way forward and a plan of action. For stress relief, outside of work; I walked up Snowdon with my best friend last August Bank Holiday and absolutely loved it.

  • When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I’d love to have been a singer but it’s never going to come off as a.) my voice won’t allow it and b.) I don’t even have the confidence to do karaoke!

  • Any advice for those wishing to join the profession?

I’d say don’t be scared to take on something new. Focus on your desires as opposed to your fears. If you’re not happy doing what you’re doing, change it.
