North Nottinghamshire Rugby League Heritage Day

Sherwood Wolf Hunt RLFC, who have moved from the Lords Ground to play at Debdale Sport and Recreational Club, will hold a North Nottinghamshire Rugby League Heritage Day involving eight teams from five former local clubs and teams from Manchester.

Club captain Adam Bates, a founder of the Wolf Hunt and Housing Officer at the Guinness Partnership, has organised the day in conjunction with Stuart Morris and ex-Ireland International Declan Foy from MIS.

Adam explained: “We are in our second season and have moved here to Debdale Sport Club, so we thought it would be good to get everyone in the area”

“We have teams from Mansfield Marksman, Garibaldi, Mansfield Storm, Shirebrook and a few from elsewhere. The aim is to pull everyone together, so we can build on the great league heritage in the North Notts area.”

The club see’s the heritage of rugby league in the area as an important part of the development of the community.  The area has at different times had up to ten clubs in Nottinghamshire, most in former pit villages and indeed it is apt that the club now play’s on the former Sherwood Pit Recreation ground at Debdale.

The event will involve a round robin of EuroTag rugby league competition.
Eurotag is semi contact with impact tackling prohibited instead contact to the ball effects the tackle.
MIS-AMS staff Stuart Morris, Declan Foy and Matt Stainsby playing and refereeing in this event.

The day will involve a presentation of memorabilia from North Nott’s rugby league history, memorabilia from both partner club Leeds Rhinos and the closest professional club Sheffield Eagles, as well as stories and articles from the past.

The day will be a family friendly event with a bouncy castle, face painting and a junior coaching session for all ages. Families are invited to get involved in this exciting event linking the past, present and future of rugby league in North Nott’s.

It will take place at Debdale on Sunday, 26th April from 1pm.
